Job description

We are seeking exceptional candidates to join a Federal Government department in APS6 Team Leader positions to continue the amazing work they do and with the department expansion they are seeking more leaders for their teams.

Job purpose
                                                                                                                                                                                                         

The Operations Branch is responsible for managing the end-to-end process for applications made under this National Scheme. This includes liaising with applicants, receiving and validating applications, assessing and developing recommendations based on the legislation, and advising outcomes to applicants.

The APS6 Team Leader is responsible for leading a team of staff that manage aspects of the end-to-end process for applications made under the National Scheme other than direct applicant contact. The Officers provide high quality support to the Scheme by completing more administrative tasks that do not require applicant contact.

Duties include
                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

This role will undertake some or all of the following duties.
  • Supervise and manage a team that delivers services to applicants and other stakeholders under the National Scheme.
  • Set objectives and manage performance of individuals and the team.
  • Supervise the processing of applications to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Monitor the team and the work to maintain consistency and quality of processing activities.
  • Provide on-the-job training, and supports skills, to their team and across the branch.
  • Exercise appropriate decisions in accordance with legislation and guidelines.
  • Identify and manage inherent and emerging risks related to the scheme, their impact and implements mitigation and/or escalation strategies.

  • Experience and capability in stakeholder engagement and liaison and navigating complex situations with multiple, varied stakeholders.
  • Escalation of critical and/or complex issues to Assistant Director and/or Director.
  • Professional sensitive and clear communication style including:
    • writing reports, briefings and case notes (such as case summaries, notes from telephone discussions and recommendations).
  • Behavioural analysis skills, including interpreting emotional and psychological well being of team members and colleagues.
  • Self-awareness and ability to self-manage in a complex, changing environment while managing a diverse team with high workloads in a high-risk environment.

 Knowledge                                                                                                                                                                                                           
  • The National Scheme rules and frameworks and the relevant polices, procedural instructions, task cards and standard operating procedures.
  • Relevant Australian Government and governance legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Role, responsibilities and processes to deliver the work in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders including across the department, the support services and participating institutions.
  • Control and assurance frameworks for risk, quality and work health and safety.
  • Performance management techniques, standards and approaches.
  • Training and coaching approaches to build team and individual capability.

 Mandatory qualifications or registration with professional bodies                                                                                                        
  • Australian citizen
  • Cleared the pre-employment process
  • Be willing to undertake the designated psychological assessment
  • Be prepared to hold a working with vulnerable person/children card
  • Baseline security clearance
