Job description


The Building Service Officer is responsible for maintaining and managing building systems and infrastructure to ensure safety, security, and smooth operation of facilities. They handle routine maintenance, manage small contracts, and respond quickly to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:
Assets Management
  • Monitor critical building systems like heating, cooling, security, fire safety, and power.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and arrange minor repairs.
  • Regularly check buildings, identify issues, and report faults or breakdowns.
  • Work with facility managers and other teams to ensure projects are completed on time and to quality standards.
  • Keep manuals and records for building equipment, including maintenance schedules and replacement needs.
  • Provide advice on facilities matters and help plan maintenance strategies.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies involving critical systems.
  • Report incidents or problems to management and help find solutions.
  • Suggest improvements to building maintenance and safety processes.
Contract Management
  • Purchase and oversee small maintenance projects to get value for money.
  • Help develop scope and plans for minor work projects.
  • Support contractors and oversee their work on-site.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Follow the agency’s asset management policies for all projects.
Other Duties
  • Follow security policies to protect information.
  • Act with honesty and integrity, reporting any misconduct.
  • Perform any other duties as needed.
