Great opportunity for an Assistant Director of Communications to make a meaningful impact in a Royal Commission, Communications provides expert advice and supports the delivery of the Royal Commission’s communications strategies for print and online publications and provides supervision of key staff within the team.
The role:

The Media and Communications team at the Royal Commission offers a unique opportunity to utilise and develop experience in media relations (and working closely with journalists) while also providing the opportunity to work on campaigns and strategic communications activities.
The function of the team is highly regarding within the Royal Commission, often reporting directly to the Chair and Commissioners, and directly to the Office of the Official Secretary.

The key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Developing and leading the execution of communications strategies
  • Leading on social media strategies and the posting of social posts (including managing junior staff as required)
  • Project managing advertising campaigns
  • Developing stakeholder engagement opportunities for commissioners
  • Ensuring the efficient delivery of multiple assignments including those produced by external suppliers
  • Participating in cross-branch advisory groups to provide communications expertise, including policy and research projects.
  • Reviewing materials submitted for publication and liaising with internal authors regarding changes in style or format.
The successful applicant will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications/journalism/publishing or related fields
  • Significant experience in providing media and communications editorial content, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and contributors in a calm and efficient manner and ensure projects are delivered to deadline
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively with other line areas to produce communication strategies
  • Demonstrated understanding and/or experience with the news and media cycle, including the drafting of media releases and working with journalists
  • Experience in brand management with a focus on ensuring communication collateral meets editorial and branding guidelines
  • Well-developed project management and organisational skills, including the ability to manage a diverse range of competing priorities and deadlines
  • The ability to uphold and model the aps values, code of conduct, employment principles and performance expectations.
