Our client is an independent statutory agency that is responsible for supporting a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers. 

About the Branch
The Community Engagement and Communications Branch provides engagement and communication solutions and advice to support the Agency to deliver the scheme. They lead development and implementation of multi-channel engagement and communication strategies to support key initiatives across the Agency and drive engagement with key internal and external audiences.
The Branch collaborates with business areas to map, plan and deliver engagement and communications activities that support their projects and reach intended audiences and build their capacity. They guide business areas on the execution of their engagement and communications activities and provide best practice engagement and communications advice.

About the Team
The Participant Experience and Branch Strategy team takes the lead in supporting the Agency’s frontline business areas on how to listen, inform, educate and engagement with participants and the sector. We support the National Delivery and Operations and Operations and Support Divisions. We also lead strategic planning for the Branch, including ongoing professional development, engagement resource libraries, and support for operational engagement teams.
We help our business areas to understand how best to communicate with their audience, based on their preferences. We apply an evidence-based approach to all that we do, to support and empower stakeholders to have confidence in the Agency. We support ministerial deliverables and champion accessibility, plain English and consistent messaging.

About the Role
The EL1 Assistant Director, Communications is accountable under broad direction to undertake very complex work that delivers quality outcomes across the functions of the Agency.
The position is an important team leadership position and will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities of substantial depth involving significant detail. It will provide the leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management and decision making for its team.

Key duties
Strategic communications 
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of influential communications and engagement strategies and plans to support the National Delivery and Operations and Support Divisions
  • Mentor and guide a small team of communications professionals in providing strategic advice to support the delivery of Corporate Plan aspirations and objectives
  • Drive the creation, delivery and review of communications and engagement content through established communications channels
  • Identify and embed opportunities for continuous improvement in communications and engagement activities and processes
  • Identify and mitigate reputational risks associated with communications and engagement activities
  • Become a trusted and reliable partner to stakeholders across the Agency and further embed existing working relationships to improve the reputation of the Branch and team
  • Build new internal and external networks to facilitate the development and delivery of effective, targeted and timely communications activities
  • Identify new opportunities for knowledge sharing within the Community Engagement and Communications Branch and show leadership in building communications capability
