Level 5 Coordinator – Freedom of Information (FOI)

Are you an experienced government professional with a strong understanding of the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA)? Do you have proven expertise in processing FOI applications and a commitment to transparency and integrity? We want to hear from you!  

We are seeking a dedicated Level 5 Coordinator to support our department's FOI responsibilities. In this pivotal role, you will develop draft decisions on document releases, conduct research, interpret legislation, and provide expert advice on FOI matters. Your expertise will ensure our department complies with statutory obligations while maintaining high standards of customer service and record keeping.  

Key Responsibilities  
  • Support the department’s statutory responsibilities under the FOI Act 1992 (WA)  
  • Develop and recommend draft decisions on document release, ensuring compliance with legislation  
  • Conduct research and evaluate documents to inform decision-making and recommendations  
  • Provide input on FOI policies, procedures, and training materials for departmental staff  
  • Consult and negotiate with applicants, third parties, and internal stakeholders regarding document releases  
  • Coordinate activities to meet deadlines and respond to FOI inquiries in a timely manner  
  • Deliver advisory support on FOI principles and legislation to staff and external stakeholders  
  • Maintain best practice record keeping in accordance with departmental policies and procedures

Essential Requirements  
  • Demonstrated government experience with a strong understanding of public sector processes  
  • Excellent knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA)  
  • Proven practical experience in processing FOI applications, including decision-making and negotiations  
  • Strong research, analytical, and legislative interpretation skills  
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with stakeholders  
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
