Job description

DFP Recruitment Perth are currently seeking a Safety Health & Wellbeing Advisor for a 57 week contract with the possibility of extension with our state government client in East Perth.

About the Role:
  • Participate in Lessons Learned workshops with regional resources on safety matters e.g. project completion, incident learnings
  • Attend safety committee meetings and provide advice on Safety, Health & Wellbeing (SHW) matters including corporate updates; provide regional KPI reports, incident investigations and wellbeing initiatives
  • Review incidents and events in EQSafe (INX Safety Incident Reporting System) to determine the quality of the information inputted and whether contactor risk rating appropriate. Liaise with contractors in regard to questions or concerns (quality control)
  • Participate in safety in design workshops
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external region stakeholders
  • Escalate SHW matters that may impact corporate strategic direction or need further discussion to understand the broader impact e.g., direct managed projects and mental health initiatives
  • Provide feedback to the Corporate SHW Business Partner where you believe certain risks/shorts cuts are being taken or there are potential breaches of SHW practices
  • Escalate to SHW Manager and or/SHW Business Partner for serious incidents including notifiable incidents to be reported to Worksafe Assist with written notifications of incidents and development of safety alerts
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with contactor SHW advisors to promote transparent communication and continual improvement
  • Undertake site visits and inspections with project managers/contract managers and/or asset managers and provide feedback on SHW matters. Schedule and track site visits in consultation with project managers/contract managers and or/asset managers
  • Review contractor safety management plans against contract requirements and provide feedback to contact manager/project manager on gaps/deficiencies in a timely manner based on priorities
  • Incident investigation – lead investigation team for incidents including writing investigation report, participate in Contractor’s incident; review Contractors investigations and making recommendations around ratings, evidence gathered and feedback on root causes and corrective actions
  • Training – complete SHW inductions including specific legislative requirements relating to the region; roll out corporate SHW training when required. Complete other safety training as required depending management requirements
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Management – provide assistance to region in relation to completing risk assessment such as Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Safe Work Instructions (SWI’s)
  • Provide intermittent specialist safety support and inspections on road and bridge night works. 

Essential:
  • Implementing and measuring performance of a Safety, Health & Wellbeing program in a large and complex construction and maintenance organisation with both white- and blue-collar workforces
  • Intermediate skill in the Microsoft Office suite and an online based corporate safety management system (such as INX)
  • Formal training and experience in Auditing and ICAM incident investigations
  • Current C class Drivers Licence
  • White Card
Desirable:
  • Diploma in Work Health and Safety or other relevant discipline
  • Basic Worksite Traffic Management Training
  • Defensive Driver training

The successful candidate must be willing to undertake a pre-employment medical including a drug and alcohol screen,  and be fully vaccinated against covid-19, including a booster if eligible.
