About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Reporting Officer (Level 6) to play a key role in delivering high‑quality financial reporting and accounting services. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, producing statutory and corporate financial reports, and providing specialist accounting advice in line with government legislation, policies, and standards.

This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, producing statutory and corporate financial reports, and providing specialist accounting advice in line with government legislation, policies, and standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs the Senior Financial Reporting Officer, you will:
- Manage and maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts, ensuring compliance with departmental and whole‑of‑government requirements.
- Develop and deliver timely, accurate, and high‑quality financial reports for statutory and corporate reporting purposes.
- Coordinate month‑end and year‑end financial processes, including complex accounting activities and financial adjustments.
- Review and approve journals and end‑of‑period accruals, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Perform monthly financial analysis and provide expert accounting advice to stakeholders.
- Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of financial reporting tools to enhance functionality and accuracy.
- Respond to internal and external audit requirements, ensuring robust controls and accurate supporting documentation.
- Provide analysis, advice, and support on complex accounting treatments, ensuring alignment with policies and best practice.
- Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies, processes, and controls to minimise financial risk.
- Maintain and update the Financial Management Manual in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Provide advice on financial policy issues to business areas.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, the Financial Management Act 2006, and Treasurer’s Instructions.
- Conduct research to stay informed of emerging trends in financial management and accounting practices.
- Substantial experience in the practical application of accounting policies and financial reporting standards, including preparation and analysis of financial statements.
- In‑depth knowledge of current and emerging financial accounting practices, including Australian Accounting Standards, the Financial Management Act 2006, and Treasurer’s Instructions.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve complex accounting and financial issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Well‑developed planning and organisational skills, enabling you to prioritise work and meet tight deadlines.
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related discipline.
- Full professional membership with CA ANZ or CPA Australia (mandatory).
