About the role
The APS6 Finance Officer is accountable under limited direction to undertake complex work that is guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies, and precedents. The position is a team membership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership and management responsibilities requiring the setting of priorities and managing work flows of a team. The APS6 Finance Officer will provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support, and advice in relation to complex problems. It may be required to coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the Department’s objectives.
 
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Analysing and interpreting statistical reports to assist with the development of work plans and strategic planning.
  • Coordinating and providing cost estimates for all internal and external requests for changes to systems.
  • Preparing reports, business cases, corporate documentation, and responses to ministerial submissions.
  • Exercising appropriate delegations in accordance with legislation and guidelines.
  • Managing quality assurance activities and outcomes including the use of integrity/error reporting and the coordination of quality audits.
  • Undertaking quality assurance of feasibility and cost estimates, assumptions, and justifications.
  • Undertaking detailed financial analysis of branch/division’s variance to budget and forecast.
  • Undertaking financial administration and across the division’s cost centres and projects, including budgets, monitoring, forecasting and accruals.
 
Skills and Experience
Applicants must be an Australian citizen to be eligible for this position.
  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal skills and has an aptitude for collaboration and negotiation with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Has a high attention to detail and a focus on delivery in a fast paced environment.
  • Be accountable and be a leader to the team.
  • Evaluation Team the required model to collate, present and rank all pricing submissions.
  • Evaluation report, and support adjustments arising from negotiations.
  • Experience in managing, coordinating, and dealing with conflicts, complex situation, and information.
