Data Modeller
 
12 Months Contract with possible extension
Canberra and Sydney  
 
DFP Recruitment is seeking an experienced Data Modeller to join our federal Government Client team. The Data Modeller will perform Enterprise Data Modelling Activity. This includes Conceptual, Logical as well as Physical Data Models for EDW Core and Access Layers.
 
Role responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain standards for peer review and data modelling releases.
  • Lead knowledge-sharing sessions on development best practices, data modelling, and release processes.
  • Own end-to-end technical implementation of new data sources—from initial analysis through to delivery—including the creation of data dictionaries, definition of release steps, and setting of data modelling and review best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across delivery methodologies, coding standards, and documentation quality; provide targeted training to team members as needed.
  • Prioritise and manage work items by maintaining a structured work queue.
  • Gather, analyse, and estimate user requirements to ensure accurate and scalable solutions.
  • Develop and maintain SQL-based analytical and ETL processes to support business needs.
  • Create and update comprehensive system and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with data consumers, database developers, QA testers, and IT support teams to ensure smooth delivery and system integrity.
Skills
  • Proven expertise in data modelling using metadata- and model-driven frameworks.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL development across platforms including MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, and Databricks, with demonstrated ability to develop, audit, and review complex code.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps principles, with hands-on experience using DevOps tools in alignment with established processes.
  • Advanced programming skills, with proficiency in Python, SAS, R, or Java.
  • Strong working knowledge of version control systems and their appropriate application in collaborative development environments.
  • Extensive experience with SQL, including the ability to reverse-engineer and optimise end-user SQL queries.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a similar role, including hands-on exposure to cloud technologies such as AWS (S3, Glue) or equivalent tools.
  • Proficient in industry-standard tools and platforms, including SAS and Microsoft Excel.
