Job description

The Opportunity
 
This position provides advice and policy analysis to inform the development, negotiation, coordination, and agreement of strategic intergovernmental policy and programs that interact with the agency. Based in either Melbourne or Geelong on a 12-month temporary assignment paying $58.50 per hour plus super. 
 
About the Role
 
The Policy Officer will provide support and advice relating to a discrete area of responsibility, providing strategic level support, advice, and analysis in policy-related matters, including complex policy problems.
 
Duties include
  • Gathering and collating documents, ensuring appropriate consultation with document owners and subject matter experts.
  • Reviewing case files and preparing summaries
  • Providing high level support to senior leaders before legal proceedings, including interpreting and distilling information through briefings
  • Performing independent research and analysis, recording findings to be included in information submitted to senior executives and external bodies.
  • Preparing draft written material including executive briefs and corporate documentation.
  • Identifying and assisting with the management of risks, issues, and benefits.
 
About You
The position is a strategic role which requires strong planning, program and project management, and policy development.
 
To be successful, you will have;
  • Ideally, tertiary qualifications in Public Administration or a related area
  • Proven experience in policy development or program management is desirable
  • Ability to plan and reprioritise based on current departmental urgencies
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Acute awareness of the longer term strategic, political, and operational outcome
  • Ability to work within an ever-changing environment
