APS6 Work Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor
S26 Transfer Only
Canberra – Hybrid working available
Temporary transfer / higher duties up to 12 months
Salary: $94,563 – $105,909 per annum + 15.4% superannuation
Location: Canberra
Employment Type: Temporary transfer at level or higher duties 12 months- potential extension
Security Clearance: NV1 preferred (Baseline considered)
Flexible Working: Available on request
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced APS6 WHS Advisor to support the delivery and continuous improvement of work health and safety practices across a Federal Government environment.
In this role, you will provide expert WHS advice, contribute to policy and compliance activities, and support initiatives that promote a safe, healthy and compliant workplace. You will work closely with stakeholders across the agency and play a key role in strengthening safety culture and wellbeing outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct, review and document WHS risk assessments and ensure compliance with WHS legislation, policies and procedures.
- Maintain WHS risk registers and hazard logs, coordinate audits and inspections, and follow up corrective actions.
- Lead and support investigations into WHS incidents and near misses.
- Draft, review and maintain WHS policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Support WHS inductions and training for staff and contractors.
- Provide WHS advice to managers and staff.
- Coordinate and facilitate WHS committees and working groups.
- Analyse WHS data and prepare reports for executive review.
- Support WHS-related projects, including ergonomic, mental health and workplace design initiatives.
- Use WHS systems effectively, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
Skills and Capabilities
- Sound knowledge of the WHS Act 2011 and associated legislation and codes of practice.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate initiatives and support continuous improvement.
- A collaborative and proactive approach.
Security Clearance
- Negative Vetting Level 1 preferred.
- Baseline clearance candidates may be considered, with sponsorship available.
