The Art of the Difficult Conversation

Managing poor performance is often viewed as one of the less desirable responsibilities of a manager. If not done well, it can lead to breakdown in communications, destructive behaviours and perceptions of discrimination or bullying. Furthermore, allowing poor performance to continue has a negative effect on the whole team and business, not just to the bottom line but to staff morale.

Technical competencies are easy to set and measure, but what about values and behaviours? Why is it that team members behave so differently despite agreeing to set values? Why is it that some employees just don’t understand what you’re saying (and why)? Have you heard employees say “it’s not what you said, it’s how you said it”. Some employees with a history of poor performance can be highly skilled in the art of deflection or distortion, leaving you confused or frustrated.

This interactive workshop will teach you how to better hear what people are saying, decipher the meaning, and enhance your own communication to achieve positive outcomes. Topics include:

The session will take participants through the following:

  • The consequences of poor performance

  • The importance of feedback

  • The difference between values and behaviours

  • Understanding and improving your own communication

  • How to resolve differences and cut through the ‘noise’

  • How to avoid claims of discrimination or bullying

If you’re looking to learn how to make difficult conversations easier and more effective, or just wanting to improve your own communication skills, register now for this educational and enlightening seminar.

Participants will go into the draw to receive $1,000 of coaching FREE from Jane Leslie.

Partnering with DFP was an incredibly positive experience. From the outset, they were proactive, professional and took the time to understand my background and career aspirations as a leader within the Mental Health sector. What truly impressed me was their insight into the healthcare sector and their strong connections with reputable employers, particularly within the Federal Government space. DFP not only helped me secure a role with long term potential but also provided a level of service that made the entire process stress free and rewarding. I highly recommend them to any clinician seeking meaningful and impactful work.

Elizabeth, Client

From the very beginning, my DFP Consultant Mel was extremely helpful and always available to answer any question I had throughout the recruitment process. I received regular updates, often without even needing to ask, and felt genuinely cared for as an individual.
