About the Team

The Data and Insights team delivers trusted, timely, and actionable data to support the agency’s strategic objectives. The team leads data governance, analytics, and reporting functions—providing the insights that enable informed decision-making, effective risk management, and continuous improvement in quality outcomes.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Data Analyst (APS6) to develop, manage, and deliver high-quality data products that inform evidence-based decisions across the agency. You’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that values innovation, accuracy, and insight.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
  • Develop and deliver Power BI dashboards, reports, and reusable datasets tailored to business needs.
  • Build and maintain dataflows and datasets ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Engage with business areas to understand reporting requirements and design effective data solutions.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure data availability and consistency across systems.
  • Provide advanced data analysis, including statistical interpretation, forecasting, and trend identification.
  • Mentor and support junior analysts, sharing expertise and promoting best practice.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance data governance, automation, and efficiency.
  • Promote data literacy and encourage evidence-based decision-making across the organisation.
About You

You’re an experienced data analyst who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You bring a combination of technical expertise and strategic thinking, and you’re able to translate complex data into meaningful insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Advanced experience using Power BI, including dataset modelling, dataflows, and report development.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience extracting and transforming data from multiple sources.
  • Knowledge of data modelling techniques, including Star Schema and dimensional design.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver to deadlines, and maintain accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across teams.
Desirable qualifications and experience:
  • Knowledge of the VET Sector would be highly advantageous
  • A degree in Data Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least three years’ experience in a data or reporting role within a government or regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with data governance and analytics practices within the Australian Public Service.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens.
  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
