Job description

Our Federal Government client is currently seeking an APS5 People and Capability Officer to join their team on a temporary basis for 3 months; based in Townsville. 

The Role
As an experienced HR professional you will support the People Services section in the delivery of ceontemporary services and advice to the organsiation. This role will invovled operational processing and generalist HR analysis and advice that supports the development and implementation of best practice polciies and procedures.

Duties may include but are not limited to: 
  • Apply contemporary, best practice HR knowledge and practice to support the Authority in maintaining a skilled workforce within a changing work environment.
  • Provide support and advice to managers and People Services staff in relation to recruitment activities including but not limited to; developing position descriptions, researching recruitment channels, attraction methods, processing recruitment requests, advertising, selection panel support and on boarding.
  • Coordinate and maintain the centralised learning and development function, including budget and assess and process staff training requests
  • Maintain People and Capability systems and databases including learning management system, electronic personnel files and key documentation e.g. organisational charts. 
  • Provide customer focused and professional HR advice, support and information consistent with legislation, internal policies and procedures across a range of HR services.
  • Build and manage productive working with relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for improvement to work practices, policies or procedures.

About you
The successful applicant will demonstrate the following: 
  • Demonstrated experience and/or working knowledge in a HR related role; within federal government setting is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience in one or more key functional areas within HR (e.g., Recruitment, Learning and Development, Payroll, or Employee Relations
  • Formal qualifications in Human Resources. 
  • You thrive under pressure, have an eye for detail and don’t get flustered when faced with competing priorities.
  • You will adapt easily from routine processing tasks to providing strategic advice.
  • You are a decisive thinker, skilled influencer, collaborative and driven to deliver
