Database Administrator
12 Months Contract with possible extension


Our client is a Federal Government body that is looking for a Database Administrator. The Db2 Database Administrator will be involved with the:

- Migration of ObjectStar Table data store to DB2 on Z/OS.
- Design, maintenance and optimising DB2 databases.
- Upgrading DB2 to V13.

Database Administrator Experts will engage in scoping, sourcing, and optimising database environments for analysis.

They will apply innovative analysis techniques and model results and scenarios, while maintaining the integrity of the system. The Database Administrator Experts will be proficient with system databases, data elements, application software, and other tool sets to develop enterprise data solutions.
They will use their extensive experience and an expert level of proficiency across a number of contemporary ICT systems, servers, coding languages and databases. Database Administrator Experts will exercise a considerable degree of independence and undertake a leadership role, with work performed under the general guidance of the leadership team.

Some out of hours work may be required, to complete scheduled work or assist with complex incidents.

Key responsibilities:

• Providing expert advice to technical specialists and stakeholders and seek their cooperation in the provision of database administration.
• Schedule and manage database software installations and upgrades to maintain currency with supported environments.
• Administer the database configuration, security, scheme, and objects, ensuring compliance against agreed standards and guidelines.
• Manage the data management process including initial loading, creating, maintaining, and distributing data.
• Implement corrective actions to improve performance and availability of databases.
• Design and plan operational backup, archival and recovery activities and
cyclical disaster recovery exercises.
• Escalate unresolved system issues to appropriate vendors or stakeholders and manage these in accordance with agreed service level agreements to minimise user/system downtime.
• Manage the development of processes, security measures, standards and best practices aimed at enhancing the availability, security, and performance of data assets.
• Prepare and review corporate and technical documentation.
• Develop data capability through coaching, mentoring and succession planning to increase performance, engagement and retention.

Primary Technologies required for role include:

• DB2 on z/OS Mainframe

To be considered for this role you must be an Australian Citizen and must have the ability to obtain NV1 clearance if you do not already hold it.
