Job description

We are seeking a customer focused team player to join this Townsville based Federal Government team. The APS4 Finance Officer will play a key role in delivering a professional and quality level of customer service within the Finance section. The role will involve providing support, advice, and accounting services to the Senior Finance Officer, in relation to management of the departments' finances, in particular accounts payable and credit cards. 

Your well-developed interpersonal skills, including your demonstrated ability to liaise, consult, provide advice, and negotiate to build and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders will be at the forefront in this role. You will provide problem solving, research and analytical skills. You will bring demonstrated experience in data analysis and data management systems, and well-developed computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite.

This role will include applicants to: 
  • Understand, analyse, maintain and manage accurate records on vendor accounts, assuring invoices presented are accurate and payments are authorised in accordance with the Financial Delegations.
  • Process accounts payable invoices in accordance with the relevant Act, policies and requirements, ensuring accuracy of data, record of interactions and decisions.
  • Manage credit card accounts, provide training to staff on the use of the system and follow up on outstanding account balances
  • Understand specific internal and external stakeholder needs, and interpret and apply a variety of legislation, policies and procedures to provide a high level of customer service within the Finance section.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and enhancement of finance policies, procedures and manuals.
  • Work collaboratively in a team based environment.
The Person

The suitable candidate will be agile and adaptive in the way they work, open to change and willing to explore innovative ways of working. They will bring:
  • 2+ years in a Finance related role
  • Problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated communication skills - written and verbal
  • Strong MS capabilities
  • Knowledge of using and maintaining enterprise finance/ procurement systems
This is a 4 month (+ possible extension) NOG role working directly with the Australian Public Service. Salary payable in line with with Enterprise Agreement $73,779 - $79,860 + 15.4% super.
