About the Organisation
Our client is a Federal Government Agency looking for an APS5/6 Workplace Relations/Case Management Advisor for a 6 months non-ongoing role (with the opportunity for it to become ongoing). 
The role is in the People Policy and Performance team.  They are looking for someone to provide support across both functions if possible, though they would take experience in one (preference for case experience).
This is also a succession planning role as they anticipate senior position vacancies in both teams in the next couple of years so advancement opportunities would be coming.

About the job

The Policy Officer reports to the Senior Advisor Performance and Case Management and works in close collaboration with the other members of the team. The Policy Officer is required to support the People Performance and Policy team in the provision of advice to managers in relation to the Agency’s employment framework and related directives and procedures. 
You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders on operational and administrative matters and be responsible for triaging and coordinating research, drafting and consultation of the Agency people policies.
You will be responsible for the following deliverables:
  1. Triaging and managing the People Performance and Policy inbox as the primary communication channel for the team
  2. Provide administrative support, customer service and coordination for early intervention and rehabilitation activities including workstation assessments, case reporting in a timely manner
  3. Provide systems administration support of the Agency Performance (management) and Communications Scheme (PACS), including reporting and the drafting of less complex policy advice
  4. Research and drafting of procedures, instruments and advice based on Agency procedures and practices, compliant with legislative, regulatory, and public sector requirements cross-government
  5. Build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders to enable provision of accurate advice and effective resolution of issues.
  6. Coordination of the People Branch communication activities such as Lunch and Learn program including liaison with Training Branch as a critical partner
  7. Assisting the Secretariat function for the AgencyWorkplace Relations Group including meetings, minutes, consultation mechanisms and written communications as required.
Key skills and knowledge
  • Ability to work independently or under limited guidance
  • Experience with rehabilitation, injury management and early intervention and/or Commonwealth public sector employment frameworks
  • Ability to prepare high-quality advice on workplace relations and complex human resource matters
  • Demonstrated experience in the research, drafting and consultation of people policy and workplace procedures documentation
  • Very good communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team under limited direction, be discrete, apply sound judgement, maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employment matters
  • Ability to manage workload and competing priorities in a busy team environment, develop plans and objectives and contribute to the team’s achievements.
  • Tertiary qualifications or accreditation in the areas of industrial relations and employment law, human resource management, or business management would be highly regarded.
