APS6 Senior Program Officer

About the Team
This Team plays a key role in informing the development of Australia’s carbon and renewables markets. They keep up to date with the industry and adapt to an ever-changing policy landscape in Australia’s climate related disclosures and emissions reduction policies. 

Delivering and evolving the Corporate Emissions Reduction Transparency (CERT) report is a key focus of the section. The CERT report is a voluntary initiative developed by the Clean Energy Regulator, which presents a snapshot of Australian companies’ climate-related commitments, progress, and net emissions position using a standardised framework. 

They have a diverse range of responsibilities across all schemes administered by the Clean Energy Regulator. Our functions include: 
  • Researching, developing, and delivering new climate and energy programs for the agency, such as the CERT report. 
  • Scanning for international and domestic developments in climate-related corporate reporting, and carbon and energy markets. 
  • Leading the Clean Energy Regulator’s work on climate related disclosures and providing expert advice to government agencies and the market.
  • Building and maintaining productive partnerships with key energy and carbon market organisations, regulatory agencies, and market bodies.
Ideal candidates
You will be highly motivated, demonstrating a high attention to detail and a willingness to adapt to the changing needs of the Team and the Agency. Ideally, candidates should be able to:
  • Research, interpret legislation and provide input into policy development and scheme design, including maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation and international agreements.
  • Exercise sound judgement and good problem-solving skills, and apply research and analytical skills, to understand complex issues, identify opportunities and develop effective solutions. 
  • Possess strong project management skills.
  • Be able to demonstrate a history of collaborating to deliver the best outcomes.
Duties
You will work as part of a team to deliver policy priorities for the section. Your duties may include:
  • Contributing to the design and delivery of the CERT report, including assessing and improving its suitability as a tool for climate-related disclosures in Australia.
  • Researching and analysing developments in reporting and corporate climate-related disclosure arrangements, carbon accounting and topics relevant to the Clean Energy Regulator’s purpose and goals.
  • Engaging internally and externally with government and the market including the drafting of responses to consultations and submissions.
  • Leading a workstream to deliver high quality outputs and potentially supervising staff.
  • Communicating complex information simply in both written and verbal formats to external stakeholders and senior leadership
Eligibility
We are after a wide range of skills and experience to complement our already multidisciplinary team. While it is not a requirement, it will be an advantage to have qualifications or an understanding of carbon accounting frameworks and corporate sustainability reporting; 
 
Security

  • Pre-Engagement Check & able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a baseline level.
