The Pricing and Analytics Branch is responsible for leading the development of the national efficient price and the national efficient cost, using the underlying cost and activity datasets.
The Role:
The Technical Manager’s role is to is to analyse and report on Agency key data collections providing insights which will improve data quality, identify variation and inform policy development and implementation. Additionally, they also support in the development and management of the national benchmarking portal which allows stakeholders to access protected data in a secure environment.
The EL1 Technical Manager's key responsibilities include:
- Understanding and analysing data collected from public hospitals, private hospitals, aged care providers, and other government bodies to design statistical models and answer complex policy questions.
- Providing input to the development of cost and pricing models for public hospitals and aged care services.
- Providing technical expertise to support ongoing enhancement and optimisation of the National Benchmarking Portal.
- Providing specialist advice to various Agency working groups, managing relationships, and working with stakeholders on technical issues.
- Preparing analytic working papers and technical documentation to communicate technical issues to key stakeholders.
- Supporting the Executive in explaining model results and other technical issues to external stakeholders.
- Collaborating with other sections on the Agency’s broader work program
- Demonstrated ability to undertake projects in an uncertain environment, including determination, tenacity and passion in the delivery of challenging projects.
- Strong technical and analytical skills, with high attention to detail. Experience in mathematical or statistical analysis and model development.
- Demonstrated experience in developing clear and efficient code preferably using SAS, SQL, or python to understand and analyse data.
- Capacity to conduct sound analyses in an environment dominated by policy and stakeholder constraints. Ability to adopt a pragmatic approach to analysis and deliver results accordingly.
- Demonstrated experience in contributing to a high performing multi-disciplinary team.
- Critical thinking skills, including the ability to develop and assess the quality and applicability of complex analysis and modelling.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information that is appropriate for a range of audiences.
- Experience in mathematical or statistical analysis, actuarial science, statistical model development, and experience using SAS, SQL, VBA or Python data science libraries is desirable.
- Demonstrated familiarity with clinical classifications and coding standards, specifically relating to developing and refining clinical classification models and standards will be advantageous
