Job description

The Opportunity 

On behalf of a large Federal Government Agency, we are looking for an APS5 Media Officer and an APS6 Media Officer. The roles can be based in either Geelong or Richmond and will be 12 month assignments working Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week. 

The Media Officers will join the Media, Marketing and Communications branch as part of the Broadcast and Digital Media Team. The team supports social media channels, intranet, e-newsletters and are responsible for creating and sharing stories, outcomes and creative media across those channels. 

Responsibilities will include; 
  • Seeking opportunities to promote the organisation with a particular focus on finding and telling stories of where the services have produced great outcomes
  • Pitch stories and media opportunities to journalists with a view to land stories in mainstream media
  • Build and manage strong networks and connections across internal and external stakeholders 
  • Produce media and other communications 
  • Manage and respond to media enquiries 
  • Other tasks may include; organising photo shoots, supporting video shoots, reporting on analytics and presentations

To be considered

You will have demonstrated experience in writing creative content for varied audiences in different forms and of a high quality, and have confidence and experience in securing media coverage and liaising with journalists.

In addition, you will demonstrate the following skills and experience:
  • Tertiary qualifications in public affairs, media or marketing, journalism, communications or public relations or equivalent experience
  • An understanding of the social media environment and platforms will be valued.
  • Experience in building relationships both with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to respond to and prioritise competing and often urgent requests in a calm and efficient manner while also maintaining high work standards and accuracy.
  • Experience in working with disability is desirable
