APS6 Payroll Services Team Leader
About the role
The Payroll Services Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and supervision of the Payroll team. to ensure the delivery of high-quality payroll services and advice to the AEC. The Payroll team is responsible for day-to-day payroll processing, including salary and entitlement calculations, within a medium sized agency comprising of staff engaged under the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) and through statutory appointments governed by the Remuneration Tribunal.
The role is responsible for undertaking work that is complex in nature, under general direction, utilising functional expertise, including salary and entitlement calculations. Additionally, daily interacting with AEC employees and management, requiring strong and well-developed communication, management, and customer service skills are essential in this role.
The role works closely with under the general direction from the Assistant Director, Payroll.

The role works closely with under the general direction from the Assistant Director, Payroll.
Key position responsibilities;
- Leading and managing a service-orientated team to ensure delivery of timely, high quality, payroll services, including delivery of fortnightly payrun.
- Sound knowledge of and ability to advise staff on employee entitlements, employment legislation, including with respect to superannuation, workers compensation, long service leave and maternity leave.
- Build and sustain positive, mutually beneficial, stakeholder relationships across the team, organisation and levels of seniority, including representing the work area at internal and external meetings or conferences.
- Drive both individual and team training, professional development, as well as seeking and delivering constructive feedback to work towards subject matter expertise.
- Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace in accordance with and act in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
- Performs additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed by the Executive from time to time.
About You
As the APS6 Payroll Team Leader, you will;
- Possess in depth knowledge of payroll services, procedures, operations and legislation in the public sector.
- Be able to manage staff while developing capabilities, encouraging career development and promoting professionalism.
- Sound understanding of, and commitment to, providing client focussed services in a processing environment.
- Demonstrate high levels of integrity, accuracy and impartiality in carrying out the role.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills and the ability to complete tasks within tight deadlines.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills including the ability to provide advice to stakeholders regarding public sector operations and legislation and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Previous knowledge and experience working with the Aurion Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) and TechOne.
- Have knowledge of or ability to gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.

- Undergo a Character Clearance, maintain political neutrality.
- Hold or be able to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance.
