Job description

Our state government client is seeking six (6) experienced Grounds Maintenance Worker(s) to carry out general maintenance of garden/lawn areas in their Padbury and Guildford locations.

Rate: $38.90 per hour plus Super
Duration: 2-3 months plus possible extension
Hours: Full time – 7.6 hours per day (full time preferred, but part time may be considered)

Location: Padbury (4 positions) or Guildford (2 positions)

Parking: Provided

GROUNDS POSITION DUTIES
Under the direction of the Team Leader or Operations Coordinator, the incumbent will:
- Perform general maintenance of garden/lawn areas and grounds, including raking, edging, mowing, weeding, and sweeping, as directed.
- Conduct pruning duties for shrubs and other plants as required.
- Carry out planting duties as needed.
- Prune, dead-head, and maintain roses.
- Apply mulch and general soil conditioners.
- Use and perform basic maintenance on horticultural equipment such as tractors, mowers, edgers, and brush cutters.
- Apply general chemicals as directed.
- Assist in general maintenance/construction tasks, such as bricklaying, brick paving, and granite work, as required.
- Participate in landscaping projects (both hard and soft) as directed.
- Aid in reclamation projects, including the removal of granite/marble ledgers and full monumental surrounds, and concreting headstones.
- Provide assistance to the Burials team and Crematorium, including backfilling graves and assisting Crematorium staff and in chapels, upon completion of training.

WORK-RELATED REQUIREMENTS
Essential:
- A relevant Trade Certificate, e.g. Certificate II in Horticulture
AND/OR
- 3-4 years of relevant and accumulated experience.
- The ability to work in a flexible team environment.
- Experience in a physical outdoor environment, including experience or the aptitude to learn the operation and general maintenance of horticultural machinery.
- Knowledge of and ability to undertake safe work practices and use correct manual handling techniques.
- Sound interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitively and deliver high standards of customer service.
- Initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work productively without supervision.
- A basic level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Windows and Internet use.
- A commitment to integrity, honesty, and ethical work practices and behavior.

Desirable:
- Basic knowledge of reticulation operation and maintenance.
- Experience in general maintenance/construction duties, such as bricklaying, brick paving, and granite work.
- Holding an MR Licence.

ESSENTIAL PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Current National Police Check
- Medical check from GP confirming fit for duties of role
- A Class C Driver's Licence (manual)
