Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer for a part-time position in their Bentley office.

Rate: $100 per hour including Super

Hours: Part-time – 25 hours per week
Duration: 12 months
Location: Bentley, WA
Type: Temporary casual contract

Purpose
Undertake system planning activities and system studies to facilitate the extension and development of power systems (generation, transmission, distribution) and connection of new customers in an efficient and sustainable manner.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake system studies to facilitate power system development and connection of new loads and generators to the system, including steady state and dynamic modelling of power systems.
  • Undertake Renewable Energy Connection Assessments and the associated system studies.
  • Engage with stakeholders and develop and project manage technical solutions.
  • Prepare Short-Medium Term Capacity Planning and assist with Load and Circuits Development Planning.
  • Conduct high level financial analysis of feasible options as required from time to time.
  • Follow planning guidelines, criteria and standards and update system planning models as required.
  • Participate in training and knowledge sharing activities within the team.

REQUIREMENTS
Essential:
  • Relevant Engineering Degree is the minimum requirement
  • Sound knowledge of energy systems (generation, transmission and distribution technology) Sound knowledge of energy system planning principles, energy system modelling and financial analysis evaluation principles
  • Sound knowledge of generation, transmission and distribution assets
  • Sound knowledge of renewable energy sources and inverter-based generation
  • System modelling experience
  • At least 3-5 years working in a system planning or related role, with focus on Energy systems (generation, transmission and distribution) planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance
  • Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Business and financial analysis evaluation principles and methodologies
  • Energy systems technology, including renewable energy and energy storage technologies
  • Power system load flow and dispatch modelling
  • Use of asset databases and systems, and Microsoft excel
  • Experience in PowerFactory
Desired:
  • Chartered membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia
  • Knowledge of the electricity industry regulatory environment
  • Project engineering experience
  • Commercial aspects of the energy industry including general understanding of major energy purchase/supply contracts
  • Project management techniques
