Flexibility that works
Designing Sustainable, Practical Flexibility in Today’s Workplace
Most organisations have implemented some form of flexible work. Yet many HR professionals and managers are discovering that flexibility can create just as many challenges as it solves - inconsistent expectations, blurred boundaries, perceived inequities and performance confusion. Drawing on organisational psychology, current workplace trends and real-world case studies, this session will examine how flexibility can be designed in ways that support performance, fairness and wellbeing - without creating ambiguity or burnout. How do we make flexibility work well — for individuals, teams and the organisation?
The key areas we will explore in this session include:
• Clarifying expectations: What flexibility means — and what it does not
• Setting boundaries that protect performance and wellbeing
• Managing fairness and consistency across teams
• Navigating flexible work conversations with confidence
• Supporting managers to lead outcomes rather than presence
• Recognising early warning signs of flexibility strain or team friction
Throughout the session, participants will engage in structured discussion, and practical application exercises to translate ideas directly into their own context. Anyone responsible for implementing, advising on, or managing flexible work arrangements will benefit from this session.
