Job description

Are you a seasoned communications professional with a passion for impactful storytelling and strategic messaging? This Federal Government department are seeking a Strategic Communications Specialist to lead and deliver high-quality, user-centred communication initiatives supporting complex legislative reform.

This role can be Brisbane or Canberra based, with hybrid WFH flexibility. This is a 12 month assignment with 2 x extension options available.

As a Strategic Communications Specialist, you will:
  • Design, develop, and implement multi-channel communication strategies aligned with user needs and legislative reform.
  • Produce professional, engaging content including intranet pages, newsletters, flyers, factsheets, video scripts, presentations, and talking points.
  • Ensure all materials adhere to the department and APS Style Manuals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support collaborative communication efforts.
  • Translate complex information into clear, accessible messages for diverse audiences.
  • Monitor and report on communication effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance communication practices across the agency.
To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate:
  1. Experience: Minimum 5 years in communications, media, marketing, change management, or PR, with a track record of developing and executing strategic communication plans.
  2. Writing & Editing: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Adobe Captivate, animation, and video editing software is a plus.
  3. Message Clarity: Ability to simplify complex information into engaging, easy-to-understand content. Experience with photography and videography equipment is advantageous.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to meet communication objectives.
  5. Project Management: Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively across teams.
  6. Applicants must hold current Baseline Security Clearance to be considered.
Desirable Criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience in communications related to regulatory reform.
  • Proven success in delivering high-profile work under scrutiny.
