Capital Accountant - State Government – Immediate Start
Rate: $80-90 per hour plus Super (depending on experience)
Duration: Initial 3–6-month contract
Hours: Full-time
Location: Nedlands, WA
Type: Temporary casual contract (no leave – casual loading included in rate)
The Opportunity
We have an urgent requirement for an experienced Capital Accountant to step into a fast-moving government environment and take ownership of capital accounting activities.
We’re looking for someone with extensive experience in capital accounting, ideally within a government setting.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for end-to-end capital accounting and reporting functions, including:

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for end-to-end capital accounting and reporting functions, including:
Management and Reporting
- Undertake capital-related financial accounting and reporting activities
- Ensure integrity, accuracy, and compliance of capital accounting records
- Deliver financial analysis, modelling, forecasting, and KPI monitoring across capital programs
- Prepare capital expenditure reports, returns, and supporting notes for the Annual Report
- Manage month-end reporting related to capital expenditure and projects
- Develop and maintain management reporting frameworks to track financial progress, accrued costs, and projected outcomes
- Provide financial input into business cases for capital projects
- Lead and support the annual capital budget process
- Identify, monitor, and report on capital project risks, providing mitigation strategies and advice
- Liaise with internal finance teams to ensure alignment with accounting policies and reporting standards
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support capital program delivery
- Liaise with other government agencies and the Department of Health on accounting and project progress matters
- Ensure front-end asset management processes are followed, including asset tagging, stock takes, and system entries
- Support compliance with asset management and financial governance requirements
- Extensive experience in capital accounting, preferably within government
- Proven capability managing capital programs, reporting, and forecasting
- Strong understanding of month-end processes and financial controls
- Confidence working autonomously in a complex environment
- The ability to quickly understand systems, stakeholders, and reporting requirements
- Excellent communication skills
