An opportunity is available for an EL1 Assistant Director – Information Releases to lead a specialist team delivering high-quality, compliant information management services. 
The position can be based in any of the following locations:  Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne, Darwin or Perth.

The Role:

The Assistant Director – Information Releases is responsible for leading and overseeing the management and release of sensitive client information, including Releases of Information, Freedom of Information requests, subpoenas, court orders, APP 12 applications and other legal notices.

This role carries statutory decision making responsibilities under the Privacy Act 1988, FOI Act 1982 and related legislative frameworks. It operates in a complex, high risk clinical environment requiring sound judgement, attention to detail, and strong leadership.
You will manage competing priorities to ensure information is released lawfully, consistently, and within required timeframes, while providing authoritative advice to senior leaders on legal, privacy and information governance risks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a specialist team responsible for information releases and statutory decision-making.
  • Oversee the lawful processing of ROIs, FOI requests, subpoenas, court orders, and other legal notices involving sensitive clinical information.
  • Exercise delegated decision-making authority and ensure compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Provide high quality, defensible written advice, decisions and reports to senior executives and stakeholders.
  • Manage complex, high risk matters, escalating issues appropriately and applying sound professional and clinical judgement.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, policy development and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • Promote a positive, professional team culture.
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
  • Proven experience working at EL1 level (or equivalent) in a governance, statutory, or information management role.
  • Extensive experience managing FOI requests, Privacy Act matters, subpoenas and legal correspondence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare defensible decisions and senior executive briefings.
  • Experience leading teams in complex, high volume operational environments with competing priorities.
  • The ability to identify, assess and manage risk associated with sensitive and protected information.
Desirable Experience:
  • Experience working within the Australian Public Service.
  • Experience in health or mental health settings, particularly in environments involving sensitive clinical information.
