Job description

DFP Recruitment has partnered with a large Brisbane based Federal Government Agency in recruiting a number of EL1 Data Engineers for their Data and Analytics Branch.  This team delivers systems and services that help protect and improve the integrity of the Agency.
 
This role will see you updating data development documentation, hands-on data platform development, providing technical guidance to developers and reviewing/approving data designs and data models.
 
As a senior member of the team, the successful candidate will: 
  • Provide technical leadership to the project delivery team through design reviews, advising on implementation best practices, defining and refining release process and technical workshops.
  • Review and refine the data delivery framework
  • Own the technical implementation of new data from analysis to delivery (designing and delivering data dictionary, defining the release steps, defining best practices of data modelling and review steps).
  • Facilitate continuous improvement measures
  • Provide knowledge transfer sessions and peer review on best practices
  • Understand, analyse and size user requirements.
  • Development and maintenance of SQL analytical and ETL code.
  • Development and maintenance of system documentation.
  • Collaboration with data consumers, database development, testers, and IT support teams.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Minimum of 4 years in a similar role
  • MS SQL / Teradata /Snowflake / Redshift / Databricks – Demonstrated competency in developing,
  • auditing and reviewing code in 2 out of the 5 Data Warehouses listed.
  • High level of competency in Programming, including knowledge of supplementary programming languages such as Python, SAS, R or Java.
  • Strong expertise with SQL, including experience with reverse-engineering end user SQL code.
  • Ability to read and interpret data models and specifications.
  • Ability to understand DevOps process and can use DevOps tools in accordance with the process.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of version controls and its appropriate uses.
  • Tertiary qualifications in mathematics, statistical, computer sciences discipline or more than three years relevant work experience. (highly regarded)
As this role is within Federal Government, applicants must hold Australian Citizenship. Day rates between $600-$800 + super will apply.
 
This role offers an initial 12 months engagement (with extension options) and can be based in Deakin - ACT, Surry Hills - NSW, Richmond - VIC, Brisbane - QLD, Adelaide - SA, Darwin – NT with 2 days WFH available weekly.
