A federal government agency is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Financial Accountant (EL1) to lead a small finance team and manage financial operations and statutory reporting. This role involves ensuring compliance with accounting standards, providing high-quality advice to the CFO, and implementing process improvements to support efficient financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor the finance team, promoting high performance and collaboration.
- Prepare statutory financial statements, position papers, and reports for external auditors.
- Provide advice on the application of accounting standards and Commonwealth Financial Reporting rules (PGPA Act).
- Oversee accounts payable/receivable, cash flow, fixed assets, procurement, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Implement financial policies and process improvements to manage risk, fraud, and compliance.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and other government departments.
- CPA or CA qualified with extensive financial management experience, ideally within the federal public sector.
- Proven experience in statutory reporting, financial operations, and team leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging with senior stakeholders and auditors.
- Knowledge of ERP and financial reporting systems (SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, PeopleSoft, or similar).
