Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Library & Museum Assistant (Local History) with the relevant experience to assist with the planning, support and delivery of an efficient and effective library and museum service to the community.   

The role is based at the Belmont Library & Museum Hub (opposite the Belmont Forum).  They will undertake a range of administrative duties, including basic research, typing of reports, minutes, filing and compiling statistics, assist with the planning, development and delivery of services to Museum customers, and assist with the accessioning, storage and display of the Museum’s artefacts and the maintenance and development of the local history archive. 

The candidate will be competent and confident with excellent customer service and have excellent attention to detail.    

Rate: $42.00 per hour plus Superannuation
Start: ASAP 
Duration: 6 months (approximately early January 2025) 
Hours: Full-time - 38 hours per week (part-time may also be considered)
Location: Belmont, WA
Type: Casual temporary contract (no leave entitlements – casual loading included in rate) 

Roster
The 4 week roster is rotated between staff. The 38 hours per week are worked across 5-6 days on both weekdays and weekends.
Shortlisted candidates will be provided with this roster to ensure they are able to agree to these set hours. 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential  
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and groups, to ensure delivery of a high level of customer service.  
  • Previous relevant experience working within a Museum, Library or similar customer service environment.  
  • Sound research and written communication skills.  
  • Proven organisational and administrative skills preferably within a Museum or Library environment.  
  • Good data entry and numeracy skills, with the ability to apply attention to detail and complete tasks with a high level of accuracy.  
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgement when required.  
  • Ability to work effectively both as a member of a team and autonomously, under minimal supervision.  
  • A good understanding of Work, Health and Safety requirements. 
  • Ability to utilise personal computer applications, in particular the Microsoft Office suite of products (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook), including the ability to use a computerised Museum or Library Management System and Point of Sale (POS) systems.   
Desirable  
  • Possession of, or progress towards, a qualification in Museum or Library studies or recognised equivalent.  
  • Exposure to the Symphony Library Management System or similar. 
ESSENTIAL PRE-ENGAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS 
  • Current National Police Clearance (dated within 12 months, or ability to obtain if successful) 
  • Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a current motor vehicle driver’s licence
  • Full working rights within Australia
