Our Client is Australia's independent regulator for online safety. Their purpose is to help safeguard Australians at risk from online harms and to promote safer, more positive online experiences.
The Role:
Working closely with the Regulatory Communications Lead and Manager of the Media and Corporate Communications team, you will also be responsible for helping shape and implement the communications strategy related to regulatory operations in the fast-evolving technology space.
The ideal candidate is an experienced communications professional with extensive experience developing a range of communications materials, including detailed plans, media releases, speeches and talking points. You will be adept at managing relationships with external and internal stakeholders, using problem-solving abilities to operate in a high-pressure environment and manage competing demands.
Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Provide expert advice on communications requirements, particularly in relation to regulatory operations and enforcement activities
- Develop strategies and proactively seek opportunities that support the agency’s report schemes, including story placement with media outlets, responses to media enquiries, issues management and promotional opportunities through marketing and digital engagement.
- Identify, monitor and manage current and emerging issues relating to regulation and enforcement issues.
- Produce high quality, tailored communication products such as media releases, speeches, blogposts and op-eds, talking points and briefings.
- Write forward-thinking and informative content that reflects the innovative nature of the organisation and demonstrates the agency as a world leader in online safety.
- Clearly communicate sensitive and complex legal and regulatory issues in a high-pressure environment
- Work across multiple initiatives at one time and ensure deadlines are met
- Effectively manage relationships with journalists and a range of other external and internal stakeholders
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of Agency’s communication outcomes and contribute to regular communications reporting
- Monitor and deal with media requests out of hours, including weekends.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar, fast-paced, senior communications role in government
- Strong understanding of approaches to data storytelling
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Exceptional written communication skills including demonstrated ability to produce and edit a range of complex materials for print, online and in person audiences
- Strong understanding of communications and marketing, including how to use digital and non-digital channels to promote initiatives and measure success.
- Media relations experience including preparing media releases and reactive media statements
- Proven track record in the preparation of speeches, talking points and scripts for an agency head or equivalent senior executive which are informative, thought-provoking and engaging
- Strong project management skills.
