- 12-month contract with possible extension
- Locations: NSW, ACT, VIC, SA, QLD (Hybrid)
- Must be an Australian citizen with a Baseline Security Clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Lead and design highly complex backend software solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Develop and maintain robust server-side applications and database architectures to support web platforms.
- Analyse technical requirements and provide high-level solution design and recommendations.
- Investigate and resolve complex ICT and backend system issues across applications and databases.
- Develop, test, and optimise backend code, ensuring cross-browser and cross-device performance.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs and integration solutions.
- Optimise system architecture and database performance for high availability and reliability.
- Collaborate with frontend developers and cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive and user-centric solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, code documentation, and regular progress updates to stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by staying current with emerging backend development trends and technologies.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a Backend Developer or Software Engineer in large-scale environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with programming languages such as Java (Spring preferred), PHP, Ruby and/or Python.
- Experience in RESTful API development and backend integration patterns.
- Strong knowledge of relational and document databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DB2).
- Experience with messaging and caching technologies such as Kafka and Redis.
- Working knowledge of Node.js and CMS frameworks.
- Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle in Agile environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to deliver high-quality, optimised code.
- Experience in leading technical design and providing mentorship within engineering teams.
- Exposure to high-availability, distributed systems and performance optimisation.
- Experience working within government or highly regulated environments.
