Job description

DFP Recruitment are in need of a senior project officer to work with our State Government client for an initial period of 6 months with a possibility of extension. The location is Cockburn Central and you are required to work from the office. This is a casual contract working full time hours, which means there are no leave entitlements, however this has been factored into the hourly rate.

About the Department 

As Western Australia’s leading hazard management agency, this department performs a critical role coordinating emergency services for a range of natural disasters and emergency incidents threatening life and property.
 
Supported by an extensive network of volunteers and career workers, we work together with the community and government to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from a diverse range of emergencies

DESCRIPTION 
  • Coordinates the provision of project management services including the development, initiation, and refurbishment of new and existing properties.
  • Manages and arranges the provision of asset solutions consistent with the departments and commercial best practice. This includes the management of consultants and contractors who are engaged to provide advice and support.
  • Manages and/or undertakes complex/ specific investigations and research for the delivery of asset requirements.
  • Develop internal and external briefing documents suitable for Executive and Ministerial review
  • Develop internal project management documents including but not limited to cost, risk, resource, delivery, and communications plans.
  • Represents the department at site meetings, working groups, committees etc.
  • Develops and implements risk management strategies that minimise the organisation’s exposure.

ESSENTIAL 
  1. Demonstrated experience in the project management of building construction. 
  2. High level communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to effectively liaise with people at all levels in various contexts. 
  3. Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills. 
  4. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and as a team member/leader.

FURTHER INFORMATION 

The position coordinates with a major finance department to manage projects on behalf of our department. As part of this, the position is required to provide updates to internal clients, prepare memos and briefings, and undertake administrative duties (attending meetings/minutes etc.). The position will also be required to lead minor projects.
The Property Projects portfolio manages the planning, design, construction and defect management of new builds for this department, including career and volunteer fire stations, incident control centres, technical workshops and offices. The Project Officer position will work across all of these types of projects. 
 
Stakeholder engagement through various communication methods is a significant component of this work, and relationship building is important. The position is required to travel occasionally, at our departments expense. Some travel may be up to 3 days. The candidate will need a valid driver’s licence.
