The Organisation
:
Our client is currently seeking a Specialist Technical Accounting Advisor to join a team within a Federal Government Agency based in Deakin in the ACT.
 
This Government body works with people with disability, providers, and the community to deliver nationally consistent, responsive, and effective regulation of service providers. They seek to uphold the rights of, and promote the health, safety, and wellbeing of people with disability receiving supports or services.
 
The Role:
As a Specialist Advisor, you will assist the Director of Financial Reporting to achieve better practice reporting compliance and process objectives, while ensuring a strong & high-quality financial performance of the Agency.
 
The advisor will hold high level knowledge of Financial Reporting Rules (FRRs) and Australian Accounting Boards Standards (AASBs) including provision of technical accounting advice and the development of critical assessments relating to contemporary accounting issues impacting the Agency.

The initial contract term is for 12 months, working Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week with a daily rate $754.20 per day plus super. This role is based in Deakin, ACT although some work from home may be available. You must hold Australian Citizenship at the time of applying.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Development of technical accounting position papers and accounting policy requirements in accordance with Australian accounting standards and other relevant Commonwealth guidance and requirements.
  • Liaison with external auditors (Australian National Audit Office (ANAO)) on technical accounting and audit related issues and topics.
  • Development of negotiating strategies and management policy positions for the Agency in response ANAO issues and topics as required.
  • Assistance and advice for planning and research for Financial Statement and Year-End Audit preparation.
  • Assistance and advice with other ad-hoc accounting policy and advice, as required.
 
Qualifications and experience:
  • Degree level qualifications in Accounting, Finance and Auditing.
  • Full membership and professional accreditation with a recognised Australian accounting body such as CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand.
  • Senior level accounting, and/or auditing, experience of at least 10 years management level experience working for similarly sized organisations.
  • Senior level experience and exposure to contemporary accounting processes and practices particularly within a government accounting framework (Commonwealth or State/Territory jurisdiction).
  • Senior level experience and exposure to financial statement auditing and interactions with external auditor stakeholders.
  • Technical accounting and policy paper development and writing skills particularly within a government accounting framework (Commonwealth or State/Territory jurisdiction).
  • Ideally, senior level auditing skills, and/or exposure to, to assist the Agency interact successfully with external auditing teams.
