Our client, a well‑known utilities organisation, is currently seeking experienced Collections Officers to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a reputable business built on a strong foundation of exceptional customer service and community support. As the organisation continues to expand, they are looking to add multiple Collections Specialists to their team.
Your new role
In this role, you will support customers who may be experiencing financial difficulty. You will play a key part in reducing arrears, negotiating payment outcomes, and ensuring every customer receives respectful, ethical and empathetic service.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage and monitor early‑stage accounts
• Contact customers to negotiate repayment arrangements and take payments
• Identify and assess customers for inclusion in hardship programmes
• Maintain ethical collection practices and adhere to regulatory requirements
• Keep detailed and accurate records of customer interactions and outcomes
• Escalate high‑risk, vulnerable or potential fraud cases when required
• Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve complex issues
• Look for opportunities to improve processes and enhance customer experience
What you’ll need to succeed
• Previous experience in debt recovery, collections, credit management or a similar function
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to build trust and rapport quickly with customers
• Experience negotiating payment schedules and handling difficult conversations professionally
• Demonstrated empathy and resilience when dealing with hardship cases
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy in record‑keeping
• Understanding of collections compliance and hardship frameworks is highly regarded
