Lead Data Analyst
 
Contract Duration – 12 months contract with possible extension
Location – ACT
Security clearance -Must be able to obtain NV1
 
DFP Recruitment is seeking an experienced Lead Data Analyst to join a high-performing Federal Government team. This position operates with significant autonomy in complex risk settings and requires strong analytical expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to provide strategic advice alongside operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver ongoing analytical support and manage projects across regular reporting, one-off analyses, and ad hoc data requests.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of business functions, objectives, and performance metrics.
  • Support the enhancement of reporting frameworks, including contributing to quality assurance and governance practices.
  • Examine datasets to identify patterns and trends, apply structured problem-solving approaches, and translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the branch and broader agency to promote consistency in data usage, reporting standards, and messaging.
  • Communicate analysis outcomes effectively, adapting presentations to suit different audiences and forums.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to junior team members within the Monitoring Team.
Skills and Experience
  • Advanced capability in data analytics, including strong proficiency in SQL, SAS, and comparable analytical tools or languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex data challenges.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the capacity to interpret information objectively and support evidence-based decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience translating technical findings for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in fraud analytics.
  • Solid grounding in statistical methodologies and machine learning techniques.
