Client-Side Works Inspector
Fremantle, Western Australia

6-Month Contract | Full-Time (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday)

$85 per hour (flat rate)

Commencement: ASAP (short notice periods considered)

We are seeking an experienced Client-Side Works Inspector to join the project delivery team in Fremantle. This contract opportunity will suit a seasoned construction professional with demonstrated experience overseeing contractor performance within complex infrastructure or industrial environments.

Reporting to the Project Manager, this role represents the client on site and is responsible for monitoring and overseeing construction contractor activities to ensure compliance with policies, Major Works Contracts, approved designs and technical specifications.

This is a hands-on, site-based position requiring strong technical oversight, safety leadership and contract administration capability.

Key Responsibilities
Working as part of the project team, the Client-Side Works Inspector will:
  • Act as site representative during construction works.
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, Safety Management Plans and statutory requirements.
  • Review and coordinate Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA), permits and risk management documentation.
  • Issue permits, including excavation permits (Identify, Locate and Pothole – R11CFM202E required).
  • Undertake inspections, testing, quality control and final acceptance of completed works.
  • Maintain site construction diaries and detailed project records.
  • Monitor progress against schedules and report on cost, quality and risk matters.
  • Manage hazards, issues and risks arising during construction activities.
  • Facilitate site inductions and ensure contractor compliance with WHS legislation and port safety standards.
  • Assist in preparation of scopes of work, technical specifications, feasibility assessments and tender documentation.
  • Participate in tender evaluation and provide recommendations to the evaluation team.
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Engineers, Cost Controllers and Planners to verify contractor performance and scheduled achievements.
  • Attend pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and project review meetings.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to Port Operations and customers.
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum 7+ years’ demonstrated experience in construction supervision, project delivery or contract administration within infrastructure or industrial environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Codes of Practice and high-risk construction activities.
  • Proven experience managing contractor performance in brownfield or live operational environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
  • Experience in scope management, variation control, quality assurance and budget monitoring.
  • Completion of the Identify, Locate and Pothole course (R11CFM202E) or willingness to complete prior to issuing excavation permits (cost covered if successful).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Tertiary or trade qualifications in construction, engineering or related discipline.
  • Qualifications in Project Management and/or Contract Administration.
  • Experience working within port, marine or heavy industrial environments.
Technical & Professional Capabilities
  • Strong coordination and supervisory capability.
  • Contract management and administration expertise.
  • Knowledge of statutory construction legislation and Australian Standards.
  • Ability to manage risks and ensure compliance in high-risk environments.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound stakeholder engagement and negotiation capability.
