Job Title: Senior Planning Engineer
Employer: DFP Recruitment client
Position Type: Full Time Permanent Contract
Pay Rate: $150k - $167k (Including Super)
Location: Bentley, WA 6102
Role Overview: As a Senior Planning Engineer, your main tasks involve updating and enhancing Future Energy System Planning methodologies and frameworks. You'll lead system studies, integrate customer-focused approaches into planning activities, and identify investment opportunities for renewables and energy storage. Additionally, you'll conduct financial analysis, contribute to capital planning, and foster collaboration among internal stakeholders. Your role is pivotal in shaping energy systems for the future while ensuring alignment with strategic goals and customer needs.
 
Key Responsibilities;
  • Update and maintain Future Energy System Planning frameworks and methodologies.
  • Identify and implement tools required to continuously improve the Integrated Resource Planning methodology and other team internal processes, guidelines and tools.
  • Power Delivery: Lead and undertake system studies to understand capacity and power quality constraints, including steady state and dynamic modelling of power systems.
  • Customers: Bring increased customer focus into System Planning activities using a combination of demographics, load/energy profiles that contribute to system constraints as part of the IRP development for each system.
  • Project Identification: Identify and support investment cases and submissions for centralised renewables, energy storage, land acquisition, including next phase opportunities for further hosting capacity release for each system.
  • Provide leadership in technical support and decision making for the team and wider Business.
  • Options Analysis: Conduct high level financial analysis of feasible options as part of the IRP process and as requested from time to time.
  • Capital Planning: Develop Future Energy System plans for each system and potential impact on operating expenditure as part of the IRP development cycle. Capital plan to be integrated and supportive of the short and long term AMP.
  • Develop trusted and valued relationships with the Regions and other internal stakeholders in pursuit of the development of robust IRP through strong communication, engagement and customer focus.
  • Assist in the technical modelling skills development and knowledge sharing within the team.
 
Essential to be successful in this role;
  • Must have a relevant engineering qualifications
  • Sound knowledge of energy systems (generation, transmission and distribution)
  • Sound knowledge of energy systems planning principles and financial analysis evaluation principles
  • Sound knowledge of generation, transmission and distribution assets
  • Relevant industry experience, skills and knowledge covering
  • Energy systems (generation, transmission and distribution) planning, design, operation and maintenance.
  • Renewable energy and energy storage technologies
  • Financial analysis evaluation principles and methodologies.
  • Commercial aspects of the energy industry.
  • Project management techniques.
  • Expert application of power system studies load flow and dispatch modelling
  • Proficient in use of asset databases and systems, and Microsoft excel
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills
