DFP Perth are seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to engage on a permanent contract with a commercial client.
Position: Senior Planning Engineer
Start Date: Immediate
Location: Bentley WA
Hours per week: Full Time
Salary:Candidates will be submitted at the rate of their choosing based on relevant experience and suitability for the role.
Travel: Regular travel within regional Western Australia
The Senior Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy systems in Western Australia. This position focuses on the development of comprehensive Future Energy System plans and strategies, utilizing the Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) methodology. The successful candidate will lead the long-term planning of generation and network systems (including transmission and distribution) across various regions, ensuring that these plans address capacity, reliability, and power quality constraints, particularly as the integration of renewables, energy storage, and new technologies increases.

Key Responsibilities:
- Future Energy System Planning: Develop and maintain frameworks and methodologies for Future Energy System Planning, ensuring they are up-to-date and aligned with strategic goals.
- System Studies: Lead and conduct in-depth system studies to understand and address capacity and power quality constraints, utilizing advanced modeling techniques for steady-state and dynamic power systems analysis.
- Capital Planning: Collaborate across the organization to develop an optimized capital plan and long-term planning vision for each region, ensuring alignment with regional Asset Management Plans (AMP) and corporate strategies.
- Customer Focus: Integrate customer insights into System Planning activities by analyzing demographics, load/energy profiles, and other factors contributing to system constraints.
- Project Identification and Options Analysis: Identify investment opportunities in centralized renewables, energy storage, and land acquisition. Conduct high-level financial analysis of feasible options as part of the IRP process.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical support and leadership to the team, mentoring graduate engineers and sharing knowledge to enhance the team’s modeling skills and overall capabilities.
- A relevant engineering qualification with substantial experience in energy systems (generation, transmission, and distribution) planning, design, and operation.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, project management techniques, and power system studies load flow and dispatch modeling is required.
- Must possess a West Australian Drivers License Class C or C-A
Desired
- Experience with PowerFactory, Homer, and working within a regulatory environment is highly desirable. Eligibility for corporate membership in the Institution of Engineers Australia is also advantageous.
