About the Organisation
Our client, a Federal Government Agency, is responsible for national digital health services and systems, with a focus on engagement, innovation, clinical quality, and safety. This department is tasked with getting data and technology to work for patients, consumers and the healthcare professionals who look after them.

About the role
As a Data Scientist (EL1) you will be responsible for overseeing and completing the data journey, from applying your data engineering experience to build data models and pipelines to ingesting new data into our Azure analytics platform (Lakehouse design), through to data analysis, visualisation, and prediction modelling. This includes assessing the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques. This assignment is untill end of June 2023 and positions are avilable at Brisbane, Sydney or Canberra
 
Your duties will include
  • Provide leadership with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure delivery of quality outcomes. 
  • Provide expert advice on complex data ingestion problem solving and issues management.
  • Recommend strategic directions for area of responsibility and consider wider agency implications when making decisions.
  • Consider and effectively manage competing priorities and strategic directions in line with agency goals and objectives.
  • Provide a significant contribution to innovation and data improvement strategies.
  • Partner with IT specialists, Data Engineers, Data analysts and business teams to build foundational data sets, end user analysis and visualisations that are trusted, well understood, aligned with business strategy, and enable self-service.
  • Deliver tangible analytical assets, utilising appropriate advanced analytical techniques and productionise these into the modelling pipeline.
  • Support reporting requirements by analysing, extracting, and publishing information on anomalies, insights, and trends.
  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
Skills and Experience
  • Extensive knowledge and proven skills in data management, data design, analysis relational data modelling, mapping, system integration, interface design and data migration.
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages E.g., Python and SQL to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Possess strong stakeholder engagement skills to work with key internal and external stakeholders to understand, negotiate and resolve complex, difficult or sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in providing advice, support to teams on technical aspects of solution development.
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures.
  • Experience in government or health sector ( Desirable )
